Why WanderingTheWorld.com Exists

Picture this: You’re about to leave on the biggest adventure of your life. You have a million questions. You need real answers from someone who gets it.

That someone is me. I started this site because I was once exactly where you are now. Excited but nervous. Ready but unprepared. Full of dreams but lacking practical knowledge.

After serving in Thailand, Mongolia, Nepal, and now Armenia, I realized something important. The Peace Corps changes you. But the journey is so much better when you have someone walking alongside you who truly understands.

I created WanderingTheWorld.com to be that for you. No sugar-coating. No unrealistic expectations. Just honest, practical guidance from someone who has been there.

Meet Your Guide

Hi! My name is Jim and I’m your writer and guide on this Peace Corps journey. I’m a current Peace Corps volunteer with live-in-the-village experience across four incredible countries.

My Peace Corps Journey:

  • Thailand: Where I learned that flexibility is your best friend
  • Mongolia: Where I discovered the power of community
  • Nepal: Where I experienced firsthand how quickly everything can change (hello, pandemic!)
  • Armenia: Where I’m currently serving and learning something new every day

Beyond Service: For several years, I’ve been a regular contributor on Reddit’s r/peacecorps community, helping answer questions and guide prospective volunteers. You’ll also find me sharing insights across LinkedIn and other social media platforms, building connections within the Peace Corps network.

Consistent Content: I publish several timely posts each week on my Substack newsletter (wanderingtheworld.substack.com) covering jobs and careers, self-care tips, and practical how-to guides. This website focuses on cornerstone content that serves as your go-to resource library. Fresh, actionable content when you need it most.

Each country taught me something different. Each experience gave me tools that I now share with you. I understand the challenges because I’ve lived them. I know the rewards because I’ve felt them.

Trusted by Peace Corps Volunteers Worldwide

I just wanted to thank you for the endless amount of helpful information you have prepared and posted to your website. I found your personal experiences to be extremely helpful! Thanks again!
