Lewis, Clark & Jim – Biking the Lewis & Clark Trail

guy and his bike

I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the 200 year Bicentennial of the Lewis & Clark Expedition in 2004 than to retrace their steps. From the banks of the Missouri River outside of St Louis, I rode west through eleven states and more than 3300-miles west to the Pacific Ocean following the Lewis and Clark Trail. The weather was definitely a factor for this trip as it was for the original explorers. And while it seems that people are few and far between along the way, much as it was 200 years ago. The people I met along the way always were generous with their hospitality. And it was always given with a smile. The big difference with this ‘modern’ expedition is that Lewis didn’t have to deal with as many flat tires as I did.
