Latest email from Peace Corps about my service in Thailand:
Greetings James:
The Staging Unit is looking forward to your arrival in Washington, DC on January 10, 2014 for the Thailand staging event.
Your staging event will be a brief, yet intense orientation to the Peace Corps and the general demands of being a healthy, safe, and effective Volunteer.
STAGING DATES: January 10, 2014 – January 11, 2014
And from the country desk:
Sawadee Ka Thai 126!
Well, it’s December 10th, 2013 – one month’s time, we’ll be meeting each other for your Staging event. Are you excited?? I am thinking of you all as you pack up your belongings this month and spend time with friends and family in preparation for your departure for Thailand.
…many of you have contacted me regarding the current demonstrations that are taking place in Bangkok, Thailand. I want to say thank you to you all for your diligence in following this news and for the care and concern you have expressed. As of today, I wanted to just confirm that we do not have plans of suspending the Thailand training class and your departure is still scheduled for January 11th, 2014.
So, travel arrangements have been made and I will be flying into Washington DC the day before staging as I’m sure a lot of other volunteers will be doing.
I might not have enough time to see any of the sights, but if I can, I want to visit a lifelong friend, Kristine, who works at the Peace Corps headquarters in DC.
Everyone says this next month will be a blur. But I don’t care because I am so excited to get this new chapter/journey started. Yippie!!!
